PostSubject: The Story Time story......Part 7    Thu Feb 14, 2013 10:12 am

Waynem was flying faster than he ever had eager to return to the side of his princess. He caught a high thermal, and chanced a look around. His keen eyesight, saw a party of people travelling on horseback. They bore the livery of the High King. They were moving towards the familiar mountain home of the dwarves, as he banked sharply on an updraft, he caught sight of an ambush laying in wait for them, a large party of trolls, led by a human. Knowing he needed to deliver his message he let out a mighty shriek of warning, and even as the humans paused to look in his direction, he urged even more speed from his Wings hurtling through the skies to the palace of Queen Blue.

In her bedchambers Queen Blue was laying in sumptuous silks basking in the glow of a new morning. She rolled over into the embrace of her consort and love, Princess Kc, and began to lightly kiss the beautiful dwarf maiden softly, trying not to awaken her too soon. This was the queen's favorite time of day, the time she had the fierce dwarf in her power, for once awake the tables would likely turn. She trailed her fingertips down her slumbering lover's neck, following them with her lips, basking in the soft mewls her touch brought from the sleeping girl. Blue continued to trace every curve with fingers, and tongue, until she could no longer contain her lust, and gave in to it becoming more forceful, and awakening her love. Soon their mouths entwined in a hot kiss, and their bodies soon followed, writhing together until they found the bliss of release. It was in this tangled heap that Waynem found them, coming in through the open balcony, and alighting on a perch near their bed.

Queen Blue rose from the bed, every bit as regal in her nudity as if fully clothed, and took the small scroll from his leg. Kc wrapped herself in a sheet, and moved into the private bath to wash and dress. The falcon hopped from his perch and landing on the floor with wings spread, began to shift and grow. Within seconds he stood, a tall lithe elf lord. "My Queen," Waynem said bowing, "our daughter is well. She has done great things, and made me very proud. She has also however taken some liberties, much the way her mother does."

"Do not forget yourself, sir. I am not betrothed to you, you may be her father, but she is never ever to know you are more than the bird you seem."

Waynem looked away, disgusted with himself for ever agreeing to this relationship, but he forced himself to relay what he had seen along the way. "The High King has sent a party to entreat with your lover's father. Even now a large party of trolls led by a human woman lay in wait to take them unawares."

"Kc put on your armor, love there is work to be done," Blue called out, even as she waved a hand casually in the air and her own garments flew to her side and began to place themselves on her at will. Queen Blue fully dressed and armored sent for the commander of the elven armies, her eldest daughter Padfoot. "Waynem get back to Jazmine, she may have need of you," she waited for the elf lord to return to his bird form before attaching her return missive to his leg. "We will meet again, soon, do not fail our daughter."

Waynem nodded his accent before taking flight once more towards Castle Tempest. Kc stepped into the room, finely attired in her mail and plate, sparkling in the sunlight coming in to the window, and Blue's breath caught at the sight, they kissed quickly, and Blue relayed what she had learned on their way from the room. "Father won't be pleased to see us, my flower," Kc said to the elf queen. "Yes I had thought the same, my sweet," Blue replied, "but he will be less happy to have a troll invasion in the grand halls I'm sure."

Princess Padfoot had already gathered every available soldier, and was awaiting her mother, and the royal consort. The Queen and consort came out of the palace both looking resplendent in their armor, and mounted up, Blue giving her daughter Padfoot a kiss on the cheek and letting her know where they were heading. Padfoot soon had the army marching out with all haste to the ancient halls of the King Elohim, and hoped they arrived in time to head off this ambush. The elven soldiers were some of the swiftest in all the land and they made good time, silently moving through their forests whether on foot or mounted the magic in the elvish blood was true and no one would hear them unless they wished it so.

In moments Princess Padfoot had her troops in place to crush the trolls, and yet she waited. She didn't want to give the signal to start the attack until her mother and Princess Kcm were in place and ready. The elven archers had taken up residence in the trees above, and the the melee fighters were blended perfectly into the surrounding folliage. Queen Blue and the dwarven princess approached Padfoot and signaled their readiness, when suddenly the sound of a great trumpet was heard.

The loud blast was still ringing in the sensitive elvish ears, when great holes began opening in the rock and soil around them releasing multitudes of stout dwarven fighters. King Elohim himself led the charge, his massive battle axe felling trolls like dead wood. A sharp whistle from Princess Padfoot had the elven archers loosing arrows at will cutting down troll and bugbear alike. The battle was joined and soon the entire area was filled with the screams of righteous fury, and piteous wails of the dying. Elves, and dwarves put aside their cultural differences in the face of a shared enemy, and that enemy was fierce indeed.

Mistress Nighttang was furious as her and her master's plans were crumbling around her. What should have been a simple hostage grab, was turning into a prolonged skirmish, she doubted she could win. As a dwarven axe sailed within inches of her face to land solidly in the head of one of the foul witch's guards the time to act had come. She called forth the black magic at her disposal, draining the life force of dwarves and elves alike and re-animating the corpses of her fallen soldiers.

The trollish zombies, fought with a new ferocity, unafraid of death since it had already claimed them once. They began to press the dwarves back. The monsters were gaining back lost ground and the elves were loosing arrow after arrow pin-cushioning several of the beasts, to no avail. Princess Padffot was unsure of how to proceed, what advantage was there left? Queen Blue with a look pulled Kcm away and they circled towards the evil spellcaster. Blue was a gifted mage herself, and while she was more comfortable with sword in hand she knew enough about magic to hold her own. Kcm had bared a small hammer in each hand that also glowed with an inner flame as she began to clear her lover a path to the witch.

The trolls felled by the twin hammers, did not rise as the others for the inner magic of the crafting set the trolls alight from within. The burning corpses laid where they fell, and moved no more. Padfoot saw the success of her mother's companion and called to the archers to light the arrows and send them into those foes downed by more traditional blades.

Soon Queen Blue had the attention of Nighttang firmly on her, and drew her sword which erupted in blue fire as soon as it left the scabbard. Black balls of fire leapt to the command of the witch and arched out at the elfin Queen. Queen Blue stood her ground, and slapped the black fireballs out of the air, batting them into two unsuspecting bugbears that burned to ash in seconds. The swift queen dashed to within range of her opponent in seconds, blue flame met black and the air was filled with the heat of their fires.

The power radiating between the two was quite intense, flashes of it rocked the area scorching the earth, and trees around them. Blue's flame covered sword sang around the wicked Nightang holding her at bay, and keeping her from bolstering her troops, but finding no holes in the black witch's defence. Princess Kcm couldn't get any closer to her lover, through the flashing magical blasts, but she was determined to help her somehow. She looked around and saw the trolls had no better avenue to aid their Mistress. She was turning to once again face the battle of her love, when she caught sight of her father, King Elohim. He was surrounded by several bugbears in heavy armour. Two of them seemed to be re-animated corpses that were shrugging off his axe blows with impunity. Kcm worried for her father, although her relationship with Blue had strained their relationship, she loved the old dwarf dearly. She didn't hesitate to wind up and hurl one of her hammers at one of the zombie bugbears. It collided with its head with enough force to launch the flaming creature twenty feet and into the large boulder, where its remains crumbled to ash. Calling once more on the innate magic of her hammer Kcm found the weapon she had thrown was once again in her hand and she charged into the group of bugbears with a grim ferocity. The dwarven royalty moved as one, father and daughter a whirling dervish of destruction that laid waste to bugbears in moments. Elohim collapsed to one knee when the last of the bugbears fell he had taken a vicious swipe to his side, and was losing a lot of blood. "My daughter," the king said, "it is good to see you. Go and help your Queen now, I will be fine." Princess Kcm nodded to her father, a single tear rolled down her cheek, before she kissed him and ran to circle behind the still battling sorceresses. Princess Padfoot had also seen her mother's struggles, and she had to admit she wasn't sure of the outcome. But she had her own struggles to worry with. While the elves and dwarves had gained some ground, they also had sustained a lot of losses, and still had a long march to Castle Tempest and possibly a greater struggle to look forward to. Padfoot knew the combined forces needed a spark, and she thought that helping her mother end the disgusting witch was just the thing they needed. She signalled her intent, and sprinted along the treetops towards the magical duel. It wasn't long before she came upon the prone form of King Elohim, and despite her worry for the outcome of her mother's battle, Padfoot dropped from the trees, to see to the fallen king. Elohim was out cold, in a pool of his own blood, and his time was short, but he still clung to life, and Padfoot discerned a faint pulse. Padfoot dug in her pouch and grabbed some of the infamous healing draught, pouring a few drops on the wound and a few more into the king's mouth. His breathing evened out and Padfoot felt he would awaken shortly, once sure of the king's eventual recovery she hurried up once more and took aim with her arrows at Nightang. Blue had exhausted the limits of her power, and had only one desperate ploy left to gamble. Her mighty blade began to glow brighter and brighter, the fierce blue flames surging outward. She was going to release a massive concussion of force to repel the witch, and hope blocking it would also exhaust her foe. Mistress Nightang let out a victorious cackle for she sensed the failing of the elf queen, and knew her power was nowhere near its limit yet. Just as Blue was about to release her power two things happened at once, a streaking silver arrow flew through the air slicing deeply into Nightang's shoulder and drawing her focus into the trees from which it had flown. A split second later, the twin hammers of Kcm punched into the back of the distracted witch's defence igniting her cloak, and setting her hair on fire. Following this opening Blue released the gathered energy pummelling the witch into the ground, and carving a channel around Nightang leaving the witch in a broken, burned and twitching heap. The three heroines breathed a collective sigh of relief, and looked to move in to finish off the burned and diseased looking evil wench, but a massive black shadow swooped down with an earth shattering screech, and grabbed the disgusting remains of the witch in a massive black claw, before taking to air. The three regal ladies looked up into the eyes of a truly massive and horrible Black dragon, eyes gleaming with malice. Fear radiated off the beast in waves, but the worst thing was the voice of the beast which they all heard in their minds. I am Stevenesch, herald of the Dark King. Fear our coming little morsels for one day soon I will feast on your flesh at my Master's behest. The black monstrosity showed its teeth and let out a blood curdling roar, which drove all around to their knees, except the forces of evil which began to retreat in all haste. With a jet of black flames that leaped tree to tree setting the entire forest aflame, the dragon turned and sped away.

The fires were raging unchecked, dwarves and elves were moving with haste fleeing the black inferno. Queen Blue, although magically drained, fought hard to rein in the terrible black flames. She was draining the fires of their potency, to allow the fighters time to escape. Soon King Elohim, and his daughter Princess Kc along with Princess Padfoot, had restored some order to the chaotic exodus and had the majority of the warriors cleared out of the burning forest.

Unfortunately there were some that didn't make it, caught in the magic of the dark fire, their tortured screams echoed through the smoke filled air. Once the body had begun to be consumed nothing could turn back the cold fate that awaited them.

Once safely out of the forest's borders, all turned in silent respect for the end of life before them. Once Queen Blue was outside there was nothing to stand in the flames way, and within an hour the once majestic wood was naught but a blackened field of ash. Littered with a few scraps of the armor of the fallen, tears were shed, but all thought themselves lucky that the black drake hadn't stayed or many more could have suffered a similar end.

"The power of that fell beast is frightening mother," Padfoot said, "I worry how we can hope to combat such a creature if it returns, or heads to our homeland."

"Yes, it is quite worrisome, dear," Blue said, wiping her soot blackened face on a handkerchief.

"Yes elf, but you know as well as I the sword the two of us crafted could do it. Shame the foretold warrior hasn't shown up to claim it yet, hmm," Elohim said, voice hardly hiding the emotion and scorn he felt in the presence of one formerly dear to his heart.

"That is true, Elohim," Blue said not unaware of the pain she caused the dwarf king, "and a part of why we came here. I believe the time foretold is upon us now, and I believe we should move the sword."

"Only part eh, what other outrageous claims might you make of me, then," the King shouted. "You know as well as I that it is neigh impossible to lift that sword save for the hand of the wielder. Even to the care of High King Stuart until such time as the warrior appears. If the two of us where to take it there it could take weeks to arrive at castle Tempest. And who is to say the warrior wouldn't come here looking?"

Blue regarded the father of her consort, and felt his pain but wouldn't back down from her stance. "King Elohim, the High King has sent emissaries here and to all the allied kingdoms asking us to come together, at Castle Tempest, to face a threat of unimaginable proportions. We came here because this envoy is what these foul beasts were after, not your kingdom, but to halt you in coming to the aid of us all, " Blue said.

"Oh dear in the chaos none of us thought to check on them, and the warriors sent haven't returned," Kcm said," Might be I should go and have a look."

"Daughter," Elohim began, "You are the future ruler of your people, your safety is of paramount importance, if you insist on placing yourself in harm's way, you at least need some proper dwarf warriors to guard your back. And before you protest, I insist. Too long have we been parted my child, I'll not see something befall you now."

The king gestured and two of his men stepped forward eager to serve. The dwarves looked alike and had to be related to one another, they were in fact brothers. "Law, Randy, I am releasing you from your vows in exchange of a new one. You shall be bound to my daughter now, as her honor guard. Well go on and accept," the gruff king asked by way of command. Neither of them would have dared refuse the honor, anyways and happily took the oath, before pulling out wicked looking war hammers that also had sharp axe blades on one end of their massive heads. Both brothers looked and were in fact ready to defend their future Queen to the death.

The two dwarves and a few elves along with Princesses kc and Padfoot headed out in the direction they had sent the scouts. Just a short way down the road they came upon the scorched remains of the elven scouts, a few burned and half eaten horses the only signs of the envoy from King Stuart. At once they turned and headed back to the group they had just left.

"I'm sorry father it appears the dragon has wiped them out," Kcm said sadly.

"I cannot leave my people here without a King," Elohim said wearily, fearful for the fate of those whom the high King may have sent to parley. It was well known his affection for the Stormking's sister LadyWitch. "Kc love, you will have to assist Blue in carrying the sword, to the High King's seat. You have the ability as do the daughter's of your Queen, always must two of you touch the sword or it will not be moved. I will send an army of our warriors with you to aid in this cause as well. Let it not be said the mighty people of our kin shirked the land in it's time of need. Law and Randy you are now Kcm's battle chiefs and protectors. See to it she remains safe and our people show these foes the mettle of the dwarfkin."

The two warriors bowed to their King and resumed their stances beside Kcm, while a large host of poured forth from the gates at the sound of a trumpet blast. Forty thousand heavily armed and armored dwarves is quite an impressive sight, as they moved into the light, armor glinting with the finest craftsmanship, the elven host spread out around them, the two groups an imposing and lethally deadly army that few could hope to challenge.

It had been four long days and nights for Beer, Blum and Jinxy, but none had it harder than young Nightranger. The desert was a harsh mistress, and although they had sheltered that first night in the relative comfort of the oasis, each successive day had been hotter, and lacked the comfort of the cool spring. The burden of carrying all the extra weight was trying to Night, but his body was developing in ways he couldn't imagine. Corded muscles stood out on his frame, and yet he was gaining flexibilty, and agility from his sessions with Jinxy. Even now he was keeping pace with the others, where before he struggled with it, and his nightly sparring sessions with sometimes one, two , or all three of the others were honing his fighting skills far beyond what they had been mere days before.

"I think we should stop for the day," Blum said drawing to a halt, "There is a sand storm approaching, and we are coming to lands of the desert tribes. It would not do to be caught unawares here."

"Agreed," said Beer, "Night set up the tents; we need sturdy shelter from the sands." "Yes Master," the young man replied, hurrying to relieve himself of the packs he carried and set up their camp.

The camp was set just in time, as the three teachers ducked inside right as the sands began to whip through the air. Night however wasn't so lucky. "You will take the first watch," Jinxy said, "maintain the crane position for a half hour on each leg until the moon has risen in the sky."

Night nodded and assumed the position arms out sword in hand as he fought for balance, the wind was fierce, but he found allowing his torso to bend and flex helped to keep him on one leg. After fifteen minutes and his body had adjusted to the buffeting winds and sands, he was then adding swordplay into his practicing; parrying sand and invisible foes alike. Once an hour had passed he was hopping with a nimble dexterity on his foot, swiftly moving through sword forms at will, while still remaining vigilant.

Inside the tent, the three old friends sat discussing the progress of their student. "I have never seen the like," Blum said, "the boy is a prodigy. He is sure to surpass our skill levels; maybe before we reach Tempest."

"Yes, I have watched his skill progress over the years since he was entrusted into my care," replied Beer, "but his growth as a fighter has increased exponentially in the short time you have been with us. I never ever saw this level of acumen from him before."

"It's the prophecy boys," Jinxy said. "He needed more to be required of him for potential to become reality, we know what he will face is a challenge greater than any one of us has known, it goes without saying his skill must be up to the task, yes?"

Back outside the storm was still raging, and darkness was falling, Night remained practicing, when he noticed four small mounds of sand moving closer to the camp. At first glance one would be hard pressed to notice them, but Nightranger's senses were keen, and his instincts were sharp.

As the mounds moved closer and closer to the camp, Nightranger continued his forms following them with his eyes but not letting on he was aware they were more than they apeared. Just as they approached the edge of his range he leapt forward into the air, tucking his legs beneath him vaulting and somersaulting over the trailing mound. Landing nimbly on his feet he lashed out with a vicious kick forcing his foot through the sand and into the form concealed within it. A man dressed in browns and greys, and heavily armed was expelled from his hiding spot with a sharp grunt. His fellows quickly halted and rose from their mounds, two baring wicked curved swords, and one had a pole arm at the ready. The attacker night had kicked quickly regained his feet, and since he had dropped his main weapon a long spear, reached behind him and drew two sharp daggers, that glinted cruelly in the moonlight. Night stood before them, calmly at the ready, and cracked his neck, appraising each man silently, noting the weaknesses in their stances and mentally preparing himself to end the fight quickly. One of them spoke, but the language wasn't one he had heard uttered before, he wasn't sure of what had been said but the posture the others bared and their slight shifting to encircle him made the meaning all to clear. Night allowed them to complete the circle, remaining perched on one leg as commanded by his teacher, Jinxy. Before any of his foes moved to attack however he leapt into the air striking out again with his foot but this time catching the same man flush in the jaw, knocking him completely senseless and removing him from the fight. The remaining nomadic warriors tensed at the ease at which their fellow was dropped from the fight, before moving to attack together. Night was a blur of motion, the clang of metal on metal rang through the air as every blow from the warriors was met by his swords and deflected.

Blum, Jinxy, and Beer looked out of the tent as the sounds of combat reached them, but were content to watch as their apprentice had matters well in hand. Night spun like a whirling dervish, disarming the warriors with well timed blows, and knocking them out one by one. Jinxy then emerged from the tent with some rope and helped to bind the four up, and Night carried them closer to the camp. Beer and Blum went inside it dragging one of the prisoners along with them, and began to question the man, in the same strange tongue Night hadn't heard before. A few minutes later, they came outside again. "It appears we have entered the territory of the desert tribes, and these sentries were sent to capture us, and bring us to their council of elders," said Blum. "It appears they weren't supposed to hurt us but bring us back as prisoners," added Beer. The group began discussing what to do with the men, as leaving them bound in the desert could mean their deaths, but they also didn't want to leave them free for further pursuit. Nightranger finally spoke up, "Why not just escort them back to the village elders and find out what their intentions were? They don't seem to pose much threat in my estimation, especially not for the four of us together. They all agreed and bound the men together with a length of rope between them each, so they could walk. Beer spoke to the lead nomad and told him to lead the way to their village. The walk was fairly short, and soon a small group of warriors ran out to meet the group, upon seeing their people tied up the approaching nomads shouted in outrage. Beer quickly spoke up, "{Your men here were subdued as they snuck up to attack us. We wish to speak with your Elders about this attack}" he said in their language. "{You will wait here, while we tell Elders of this}" said the leader of the nomadic warriors. The other warriors stood ready to attack as their leader left. Waiting for any of the intruders to provoke action. "{I wouldn't look so aggressive if I were you}" Blum said glibbly, "{My young friend here took out all four of your scouts single handedly in a few seconds}" he gestured at Night. "{I doubt that you could give him much more of a workout}"

The guarding nomads bristled at the insult to their abilities, before one of the captured men spoke up quickly, "{I am ashamed to admit he is telling the truth, my brothers. That one disarmed us and knocked us out in no time, and wasn't even breathing hard afterwards. His skill is very impressive.}" "{How brother, you are some of our best warriors one young man could not dispatch our men so easily. He must have used dirty tricks, maybe magic my brothers?}" said one of the nomads, spitting in the sand. Jinxy had been translating the exchange for Nightranger, after which he removed a ripe melon from his pack tossed it in the air, and faster than the eye could see he moved. When he came to rest a mere fraction of a second later, with his hand out stretched, the melon fell in his palm, sliced in to four neat sections, which he passed out to his teachers. The stunned look on the face of the doubting soldier was satisfying to the young warrior, as he eyed the man while taking a bite of the ripe and juicy fruit. Shortly afterwards the nomad that left to confer with the elders returned to lead them into the village, and before the assembled villagers, and elders. Night observed the people, it seemed as though this was a Matriarchal society, the Elders were all women, however none of them seemed to have earned the name elder based on age, they were young, or middle aged.

They stood and then one moved forward, and spoke in highly accented but understandable common. "My name is Ladyhawk, and I am the leader of this council," she said, " why have you crossed into our lands?" Beer stepped forward, and before he spoke, night noticed a look of recognition cross the woman's face. "Ladyhawk it is good to see you again," he said. "I wasn't aware that these men were of your tribe nor that we had entered the lands claimed by your people or perhaps this misunderstanding could have been avoided." Night turned to look at Blum and Jinxy, only to find them untying the captives. "We came this way for a reason, mostly because the harsh environment was suited to train our young pupil here," Beer continued, "and also for the added stealth that coming this way would block him from the eyes of those seeking to find him." "General Fitz, leader of Alpha Squadron is that you," Ladyhawk asked squinting her eyes in disbelief. Night gawked openly at his master, not understanding at all what was happening. "Yes I was Fitz to you, now I am known as Beer, and heavens could I use one right now. Been a long time since I was a General of anything." " I gave all that up when I was charged by the oracle to look after this young man, Nightranger," he said gesturing to the young man. "So wait a minute, master you are the fabled General Fitz, founder and former leader of Alpha Squad," Night asked? "Why didn't you ever say anything to me?" the young fighter asked. " Night it was for your protection, the fame my name would have attracted was a part of what I gave up when I was given the charge to take care of you. I couldn't tell you of my origins because it could have compromised your safety." Night looked upset but only nodded his head once, and held his tongue. Beer felt bad for decieving the boy, but he hadn't had much of a choice. "Forgive me for speaking out of turn," Ladyhawk said, "allow us to prepare you some food, please make your selves comfortable and enjoy the hospitality of our village. Any companions of the General are most welcome here."

Preparations were well under way at Castle Tempest, and a tense High King was anxiously awaiting the reports of his generals. Stuart paced around the war room, far too agitated to sit still, even once the members of Alpha squad began to filter in. Maestro, and Golden Lady entered together, smiling at each other as usual, the huge warrior had one arm wrapped around the beautiful mages shoulders, as the quietly spoke to one another. It took a moment for them to even notice they weren't alone in the room, for which the king gave a slight chuckle. The two of them looked up mortified at having ignored the presence of their king, Maestro giving a deep bow, from one knee, and Amber a very deep curtsy. "Our sincerest apologies my lord," said the empathic Golden Lady, "we weren't expecting you to be here before us, although there is little excuse."

"Your majesty, please excuse us," Maestro added, "but there is little time for matters of an intimate nature wtih all that is going on to ready us for war."

"It is fine, my friends," replied the king. "How goes your responsibilities?"

"I have been working extensively with Ladywitch , Renske, and Debi, and we have tracked down over one hundred spell-casters of various abilities and strengths. Our defensive and healing abilities should be enough to keep our fighters strong my King," Amber said just as John, Ballzee, Greco and Maniac entered the room. "My king," the three generals said bowing to their liege. "I see you have begun receiving reports," said John," that is good. Things are looking good for us at the moment, old friend."

The generals then began detailing each and ever part of the armies make up, and strength for their sovereign. Greco had been drilling several legions of archers. Long bowmen for ranged attacks numbered around twenty thousand, and he had trained thirty thousand more in the use of crossbows. while the crossbow wasn't as quick to load its accuracy was unparalleled giving the average towns person, and the untrained and uninitiated a chance to be effective in utilizing it, as such it made it easy for him to conscript the masses into the defense of their homes.

Ballzee had amassed a very large network of scouts and trackers from the wolfen, cat men, and elves on hand. These three races known for their stealth, senses and various other innate abilities were well suited to hit and run missions and gathering critical intelligence. "King Stuart, we have had little to no problem integrating the races amongst the scouts and trackers, everyone is well aware of the stakes here, and I must say they are working well together a real cohesive unit. We have ten thousand total of that ten I would say two thousand are inherently better suited for the stealthier scouting missions," the general said.

Maestro and Maniac were in charge of the remaining armies, over five hundred thousand and growing. These included the foot soldiers, mounted calvary, and those would be responsible for any engines of war These included the teams practicing on the trebuchets, and catapults. There were over fifty thousand of them in that small section alone, and each group of five thousand had several of the large weapons at their disposal, and were proficient in their use. Maniac had been working with the calvary, there were over a hundred thousand riders, the issue at hand was insuring the quality and readiness of mounts. "My lord, we are having difficulty acquiring enough steeds for all our capable riders, this is the main issue, however the men are ready and the warhorses we do have seem to be of the finest quality," Maniac said. "Finding and training the additional mounts will take time, and I am not sure if it can be accomplished prior to the start of engagement."

"How many horse do we need," Stuart asked.

"Almost sixty thousand, your majesty," the general replied.

"So many," Stuart asked, "I have not a clue where to gather that many animals, suggestions?"

"My king there is almost no way to gather that many trained horse before the attack begins, perhaps we could find some other creatures that could aid us in our struggle," Father of Maniacs suggested. "Would be nice if we had some flyers," John added, "what about the gryphons?"

"I bet Ladywitch could get a delegation there fast to approach them for help, her teleportation spells are some of the most advanced I've ever seen," Amber said, "and with the intelligence of there species and the ferocity they are known for it wouldn't take them long to pick up on our tactics. Though I have heard they are reticent about accepting riders."

"Well we can only ask," said the king, "we are fighting for the safety of all the goodly races and people of the land, hopefully they will see this and choose to aid us one way or another. I admit I hadn't thought to seek their aid for the very reason you stated, Lady Amber. But now isn't the time for reluctance, but decisive action. Go to the sisters and see what you can do in this regard, fair golden lady."

Amber gave a slight curtsy to the king before turning to walk away from the table they were gathered around, right before she crossed the threshold to the room she turned back, and raced to the arms of Maestro and planted a long deep kiss on him before hurrying from the chambers. The other gathered generals laughed and elbowed the big warrior, before resuming their discussions.

Maestro cleared his throat before speaking, "Uhrm, yes well the foot soldiers' training is coming along nicely, the men have become quite adept at creating and maintaining a significant shield wall. Which can be formed in several ways and shapes giving them excellent defensive and offensive capabilities. The pike men are training with them and showing the same level of adeptness. We have also got several legions of melee experts, my king, which do them selves proud. I think besides those of us gathered in the room, and a few of our former members of Alpha Squad, we would be hard pressed to find a finer fighting force anywhere."

"Excellent, excellent," Stuart said, "well gentlemen if there is nothing further I'm sure you all have tasks to see to."

"Pardon your majesty," John said, "have you received word of my lady wife?"

"No my brother, and it worries me greatly," said Stuart. "I had fierce misgivings about sending her out at all, but you know Lilu she wouldn't take no for an answer, plus with her relationship with King Elohim, I knew she was the perfect emissary to request the dwarves join with us. She should have been here one way or another by now however."

Just as the king finished saying this the alarm was sounded, five sharp blasts from a trumpet signaled the approach of an army to the walls of Tempest. Without sparing a word the six men rushed out of the war room and headed out the castle and ran at full sprint for the walls of the city. rushing through the guard post and up the stairs, until they reached the top of the crenelated walls. There they beheld a sight not many had ever seen before a huge force of dwarven and elven warriors marching side by side armor reflecting the light of the sun, and glinting of an array of deadly weapons. The warriors numbered easily in the tens of thousands if not more than one hundred. Each carrying themselves as only veterans of bloody campaigns would. King Stuart called down to have the gates opened for these could only be the allies he had sent his sister to find. John was the first back down the stairs, although the king himself was a close second, each of them was however surprised to find that the first one through the gates was the wily Princess Jazmine daughter to the elf queen.

"Mother is here, High King," she said dashing by the two, "and my sister." The stealthy warrior princess didn't make a sound or even leave behind any footprints as she dashed down the road towards her family. The King and John paused and decided decorum called fro them to remain within the gates until the army had entered, but watched carefully as two stout, and similarly armed dwarves moved ahead of them to bar the way of the exuberant Princess. They might as well been barring the path of the wind. Jazmine leaped over their heads, and right into the arms of a female dwarf riding next to two elves that could only be her mother and sister. She hugged the lady dwarf, then leaped nimbly to the horses of the two elven royalty, hugging each soundly. the procession barely halted while all this was happening and soon came to a stop right outside the gates.

"I bid you welcome friends to the walls of my fair city," Stuart said stepping out to greet Queen Blueruin. "Please enter with my thanks for your swift arrival at this time of peril for us all."

"High King," the Queen of the elves said bowing at the waist, "Allow me to introduce the heir of the Dwarven Kingdom Princess Kcm." The dwarven princess dismounted and bowed equally low to the king. "Your majesty I'm afraid we come bearing bad news..."

The night was dark and clouds of black ash and soot in the air around the once dormant volcanic peak of Mt. Omega, made visibility a near impossible thing. Not so to the keen eyes of the great black dragon, Stevensch. He glided with eerie grace straight for the summit, and even higher. The frigid cold may have bothered his passengers, but the ebon flames that burned within him allowed the beast to feel none of the biting frost gained at such an altitude. Once he had gained sufficient height, the fell creature banked sharply in a dive pointed directly towards the jagged opening of the volcano. The wind screamed past with a very high keen, as the beast plummeted into the fiery pits of the mountain, swallowing the screams of the blighted witch riding on his back, and the moans of the unconscious woman in his claws.

Great ghouts of flame, and super heated rock rose in the air around them, but the sleek, and sinuous beast had no fear, twisting around the magma with ease. The heat affected him as little as the cold before it, but was sheer agony for the already burned and disfigured witch Nightang. Slowing the speed of his decent the dragon, aligned itself with the wall where its lair was and scrabbled into the cavern that housed its hoard. From there it moved deeper into the network of tunnels that wove through the mountain, towards the seat of its dark master, and the completion of its present task.

"Prepare yourself," the beast rumbled in a low growl, "the Lord of Darkness and your king awaits word of your many failures foul witch."

Mistress Nightang trembled from the pain of her injuries, and shuddered at the horrors that surely awaited her at the hands of the sadistic King. Failure upon failure had led to this point, and the only redeeming factor in all of this lay within the clawed hand of the stinking dragon, not her own. Her mind scrambled to find some way to spin survival, from a seemingly assured long and torturous end promised to those that failed her master. It was like grasping at straws. The allies of the cursed Stormking were adept at thwarting the plans she had hatched, and the Dark King respected only results. Time and time again, she had failed him, and now broken, burned and defeated she returned to his judgement.

The dragon stopped briefly and set down the as yet unware burden in its claws, and breathed a small plume of its black flames from one nostril, at the still form below him. The unnatural and wicked flames burned with a cruel intensity, as they shaped themselves to the dragon's immense will. They formed shackles and chains around Lady Lilu's hands and feet, burning not with heat, but with a psychic agony that woke the Lady with a ragged scream of anguish. Stevenesch bent and scooped up the chains with one of his massive lower fangs, a jagged tooth that stood longer than most dwarves, leaving the now screaming woman dangling in the fetid breath, and occasional drips of rank saliva that flowed from his maw. If not for her own circumstances, Nighttang would have revelled in the pain that the so called High King's sister was enduring even now, the screams were an impetus for healing a few of the more minor wounds of the hag, but all she could think of was that with each step took they approached an even more grueling punishment for her.

Soon enough they entered the black heart of the mountain, the seat of the Lord of Darkness's power, and throne room. Shadows seemed to eat the light here, even though the magma bubbled and pooled in spots all along the room, it was obvious darkness reigned here. Even the fires of the volcano bowed before it. Tall ebony pillars rose impossibly high into the air, carved with eldritch runes of power, and decorated with spikes adorned with the remains of those thaat defied or displeased the master. The room appeared empty however and the throne as well sat vacant, the only sounds were the dragon's heavy breaths, and for a time the screams of the tortured lady Liiu, until she lasped back into a restless state of catatonia, her mind unable to deal with the horrible afflicition placed on it by her bonds. The dragon moved to the pillar closest to the Dark Lord's throne and hooked the manacles between Lilu's wrists to the highest spike that would allow her toes to graze the ground, and barely provide relief to her stretched shoulders and arms. He then moved a respectful distance away, and curled up to wait on his master's arrival.

"Get down from my back, you scabrous wretch," Stevenesch disdainfully said, " had the master not wished to see you I'd have eagerly crunched your bones and spit out your worthless hide long before."

The dragon shook his neck dislodging the witch before she could remove herself from it, flinging Nightang to the floor inches from a bursting pool of lava. The latent heat of which ignited what little was left of her hair, and caused numerous blisters to burst on her burned skin, forcing a wail of pain out of her cracked and blistered lips. She huddled piteously on the floor wracked by uncontrolled spasms, and surrounded by pools of puss, and flakes on her own skin, that bubbled for a time before turning to ash. A long slow hour passed in this manner, before the darkness grew even more oppressive, heralding the presense of the Dark KIng.

He coalesced from the shadows on his throne, and appeared as if out of nowehere, inky tendrils of darkness oozing all around him, and pooling at his feet. He sat magnanimously atop his perch eyes coldly appraising and calculating the three before him. He sat unspeaking for a long time, and as each minute rolled by the terror written on the face of Nightang grew. The sound of his fingers drumming on the skull arm rests of the throne, caused the witch to flinch subconsciously every few seconds, as if they were signaling the inevitable end for her tears poured from her eyes, the warm salty discharge burning the many lesions and broken boils on her skin, but she couldn't stop them no matter how hard she tried.

Finally he spoke. "Stevenesch you have served me well, my herald. I watched with glee as the black fire of your breath burned the insipid elves and dwarves and all of their precious green forest. It was a thing of dark beauty to witness. Yet your worth didn't end there; you laid waste to the pathetic guard of Stuart Stormking with ease, and brought me this lovely gift! The fool's sister! Even now in her silence her mind cries out with the delicious agony of its torment." The Lord of Darkness stood then, and gazed down on the wretched scraps of his other servant, Nightang.

"My, my Nightang how you have fallen from my grace. Look at you the disgustingness of your appearance, now almost matches my disgust for your wretched failures. You were chosen as my hand to cast chaos in my name, and your ineptitude seems to know no bounds."

A lance of shadow licked out from the gathered pool at his feet, and pierced the witch in her right shoulder lifting her from the ground.

"You have failed me for the last time, former Mistress. But fear not, I won't kill you. You aren't worth a death at my hands. That would honor you far too much." A second spike of shadow appeared, and pierced her left shoulder, dragging the crying witch higher aloft. "No you still will serve me, and the cause of my rule for quite a long time, Nightang," the Lord said calmly, as tendrils of power flickered along the pinions holding the deformed woman off the ground. Lightning as black as the shadows it came from arced through her body, setting her world on fire, feeling as if it were melting her soul.

"Will you not thank me for sparing you, my dear sweet Nightang?" the black-hearted King asked the twitching witch. "Are you not grateful?" The agony continued for what seemed like hours, but in fact was only minutes. The electrical charge increasing in strength, but even as it hurt her it was removing the burns, and healthy new skin was forming, hair regrowing as the old fell from her flesh. The ragged scraps of clothing left on her body burned to dust in seconds, leaving her nude, but the transformation didn't end there, her bones began to stretch and grow harder, and her skin turned a pale green, even as two small tusks formed in her lower jaw. Her ability to touch and sense magic was stripped away, and at last the spikes of shadow removed themselves from her limbs and healthy skin was left in their wake, the healthy skin of a female troll.

"Yes," her master continued, "you will serve me still as a plaything for my armies. You will keep their morale high until it is time to destroy the pitiful resistance lead by the Stormking. Stevenesch make her a collar, much like the chains of this one, but allow her respite, nay allow her pleasure if she is rutting with my troll minions, that will ensure this filth makes every effort to do her job for once in her worthless existence." The dragon bowed before the cruel Master, and once again breathed out his black flames encircling the neck of the newly made troll wench, the ebon flames roiled around her neck before forming into the desired implement, bringing forth a high pitched scream from the troll Nightang. "Get out of my sight you bellowing filth," the dark one said before resuming his seat on the throne. Nightang hurried from the room, as fast as she could seeking a troll, any troll to bring relief from the agony that was her new life.

Upon hearing the ill tidings brought by Queen Blue and company, the high King immediately convened a council of war. The war room was filled with the gathered allies. Representing the elves was the Queen herself, Blueruin and her daughters Padfoot and Jazmine. For the dwarfs Princess Kcm, and her captains Law, and Randy the twin brothers that had yet to leave her side. Representing the Wolfen people, was Prince Roy, with his seconds Wolfgirl and Roxy. Chief Zero alone was there for the Cat peoples. All members of Alpha squad were there, save the King's other sister Feral, which was puzzling for him as well. Where is she? he thought. In fact I haven't seen her since the others have come back.

"General John," Stuart began, "before we begin can you tell me where General Feral is and why she hasn't been here with the rest of you?"

"Yes my King," John responded, "please pardon my not mentioning this prior, but as you well know Feral is stubborn, and getting her to listen to orders can be tricky at the best of times. Greco says they came across a patrol on the way to our meeting up which she commandeered and took straight to Omega valley for reconnasence, and insurgency tactics."

"Yes apologies, my King," Greco added knowing he at least should have made the High King aware of his own sister's movements, "according to our agreement on parting she should be sending word of troop numbers and placement, shortly." Stuart kept his face composed but the members of Alpha Squad knew their king well, and could see the signs of worry there no matter how well he tried to hide it. One sister for sure in the clutches of who knows what kind of monsters, and the other right in their midst as well, Stuart thought. What other catastrophes await me this day?

"Thank you both," he said, "I know my sister well, and few if any can get her to divert from the course she deems best, regardless of what is discussed or that which the rest of us find most prudent. She can be blastedly headstrong, but her instincts usually put her in the right place. Let's hope that remains the case today."

"Your Majesty," General Ballzee began, "we have sent out several parties in that very area which I have alerted to keep a look out for her, and to put themselves at her disposal. Captains Nuke, and Shinryu are leading them and as you know have been for some time two of our best stealth operatives. Were it not for other duties Captain Roy would be there as well, maybe the only other man we have I would count as better than those two."

"Good, yes you left out only one other, General," Stu answered," yourself. Roy I've been meaning to do this for some time, but it seems like things kept getting in the way. You have done our country many great services, and for that I am promoting you to Colonel, and second to the general here in charge of the scouts. I know you are representing your mother, but as she will soon be here, I assume you can resume your duties post haste. I would like for you to find my sister, take over for her in the field and send her back here. Alpha Squad is needed to coordinate right now and she needs to understand that, despite her tendencies to want to do everything hands on."

"I will leave within the hour, my liege," Roy said with a flourish, "Roxy you will stay here until mother arrives, Wolfgirl you are with me." The Wolfen bowed again to the High King and other assembled royals and strode from the room. As he left, Ladywitch, and her sister mage Renske entered the room, and took seats at the end of the table. Ladywitch nodded at Queen Blueruin, and a look passed between the old friends, before the door to the chamber had even fully shut. Stuart spoke into the gap made by the new arrivals and Colonel Roy's departure.
